ABSTRACT

The field of organization theory is a wide-ranging collection of approaches to systematic study of the nature of the administrative organization. It is, to use Dwight Waldo’s classic phraseology, a problem of “elephantine” proportions. Organization theory encompasses everything from Max Weber’s formulation of the nature of an organization to the recent literature on the scientific study of organizations. Within the field of organization theory, the area of decision-making theory is available to the practitioner to aid in the process of making judgments about administrative matters.
