Antigens are molecules that elicit the production of, are recognized by, and react with antibodies. Molecules of all sorts—proteins, polysaccharides, glycoproteins, glycolipids, lipoproteins, lipids, polynucleic acids, etc.—have these characteristics, so that the variety of antigens is almost endless.
