ABSTRACT
Supercritical fluid chromatography that uses supercritical fluid as the mobile phase originated with Klesper and co-workers from high-pressure gas chromatography, and it was developed by several research groups. Supercritical fluid extraction (SFE) has so far been investigated and utilized for mainly industrial scale extraction, though SFE can be performed in microscale, and such SFE has many advantages over pilot plant SFE from several viewpoints. The SFE extract exhibited fluorescent yellowish green, while the tetrahydrofuran extract was dark brown. In the SFE section, the extraction medium flows into the extraction vessel which has a blocked end tubing, i.e., the extraction is performed in stop flow. high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) is a separation analysis method not only contemporary with SFE and SFC, but also with a similar history of development. Traditionally, analysis of SFE extracts has been performed offline with gas chromatography, HPLC, and other types of chromatography.
