ABSTRACT

This chapter analyzes the data modeling requirements. The “integration” in computer-integrated manufacturing is a challenge to both technical and organizational talents. Multiuser operation gives the user the impression of currently being the only one on the system. Translation corresponds to moving the geometrical object within the three-dimensional coordinate system relative to the origin. The orientation of the object in the 3D space is not altered by a translation. In comparison to relational or similar database systems, structurally object-oriented approaches improve the represent ability of elaborate real-world information structures by supporting complex objects with appropriate generic operators. Structural object orientation is primarily based on a single extension to classical data models, namely complex objects in various forms with more or fewer restrictions.
