ABSTRACT
Two recent U.S. Supreme Court decisions in Daubert v. Merrell Dow Pharmaceutical, Inc. 1 and General Electric v. Joiner 2 have given federal trial judges the power to determine the reliability of scientific opinions and have strengthened their discretion as gatekeepers of scientific evidence. 3 The Federal Judicial Center has provided a reference manual to assist trial judges with the implementation. 4
