ABSTRACT

This purpose of this paper is to share New York State’s experience with fiber reinforced polymer (FRP) composite bridge decks and superstructures. Over the past few years, the NYS Department of Transportation (NYSDOT) has gained considerable design and construction experience with lightweight FRP decks that will be useful to others attempting such a project. A summary is presented from the “owners” perspective, the typical transportation agency that is directly responsible to the end customer – the taxpayers and road users.
