ABSTRACT

In discussing the organization and management of research work while studying for a postgraduate research degree, it is worth bearing in mind the ultimate goal—the production and defence of a thesis, i.e. the coherent written account of the research carried out by the student during their course. An important and early stage of organization must be to define the area or topic upon which one intend to work and to identify key issues, questions, etc. that might make a good thesis. The overall organization of one's research work that was discussed in the previous section requires a certain amount of planning if everything is to run smoothly. There can be enough upsets with regard to the content of the research without letting general organizational matters create difficulties as well. Regular routines are also essential because they help to circumvent times of low motivation and keep one going.
