ABSTRACT

Quality, human factors and other traditional product development disciplines have expanded their reach with the aim of including and trying to fulfil users’ “soft”, subjective, needs. This situation has led to designers and manufacturers demanding methods and tools to include those new requirements into the design process and transform them into product specifications. This chapter describes ENGAGE’s rationale and objectives and the expected results from its activity. ENGAGE is a Coordination Action project funded by the European Commission under the 6th Framework Programme. The project is steered by a consortium made up of 21 partners from 9 European countries, including many key organisations in the field of design and emotions. Project ENGAGE is focused on the field of design and emotions, following a practical approach. The main goal is to gather and exchange knowledge that is useful for practitioners and companies.
