ABSTRACT

The Pergo group is a major manufacturer of laminate flooring. A general model of Kansei Engineering was used for evaluating subjective impressions of laminate flooring. Selective marketing may help improving acceptance of laminate flooring. Moreover, it can be assumed that craftsmen are very aware of the specialties of a laminate floor since they are concerned with those properties, which relates to the Pergo company image. In many cases laminates are generally considered to be inferior and a low budget alternative, despite the fact that laminate in many aspects is better then the original material regarding mechanical properties, application and design. The different layers can be bonded through two different methods, High-Pressure Laminate (HPL) and Direct Laminate. HPL is an older method where a surface laminate is first created from several sheets using pressure and heat. In a second step the laminate and the backing are glued onto the core.
