ABSTRACT

Most of us are going to live in our own homes when we become older, and we will want to feel safe and to be independent. The main trend in Norway is to support disabled and elderly people in their own home by giving healthcare, practical assistance and support from the municipality at home. Smart Home Technology is a collective term for information and communication-technology in homes, where the components are communicating through a local network. There are a number of ways to program the system to trigger alarms, according to the need of the individual person. The discussion on economy is closely connected to the quality of the services, and economic advantages have so far not been focused upon. The success criteria are closely linked to the user involvement and a multidisciplinary approach. Smart home technology is frequently offered to all kinds of buyers, installed in apartments with relatively high standards.
