Sexuality and Interpersonal Relationships
Nowadays we associate sexual intercourse with love and understand it as an expression of love. What we take for granted today has a long and tortuous history in which love was not emphasised. Rather up to our own day it was procreation that was considered its primary purpose and the Church agonised over its pleasurable aspects. The long story of how Christianity found its way from understanding sexual intercourse as procreation to love deserves a book, but at the beginning of this article I will attempt a brief history of its development.
