ABSTRACT

It is the Jus Gentium or Law of Nations that whatever wast or unculted Country is the Discovery of any Prince, it is the Right of that Prince who was at the charge of that Discovery; Now this Province is a Member of that part of America which the King of Englands Ancestors have been at the charge of discove[r]ing, and which they and he have taken care to preserve and improve; And his late Majesty of happy memory upon the Petition of William Penn Esq: (wherein he set forth his Fathers Services, his own Sufferings and his Losses in relation to his Fathers Estate, and lastly his long and costly attendance without success) was pleased in right and consideration thereof to make a Grant, to the sai’d William Penn of all that Tract of Land in America which is exprest in the following Declaration to the Inhabitants and Planters of the Province of Pensylvania.
