ABSTRACT

This chapter describes the lifecycle of a programme management case in the aviation industry from design to completion. The aviation industry comprises all the functions needed to operate air transport services for passengers and cargo. These include: airports, air traffic control, airlines and their associated services such as technical aircraft maintenance, catering and so on. Typically there are two types of business programme in the aviation industry – specific and holistic. Specific programmes are designed to address specific tasks. Holistic business programmes target overall profit improvement or aim at business restructuring. As the organization would be alert after an upcoming programme had been announced the pre-phase actions had to be short but effective. This was a decisive phase because key success factors had to be identified and addressed. Effective communication is critical for successful programme management from start to finish. According to the programme's overall organization structure, communication managers of all business units were linked to the programme.
