ABSTRACT

This chapter focuses on improving programme management maturity on a continuous basis. It describes how the maturity of a single programme can be assessed with the help of benefits management, programme governance and programme stakeholder management. Programme management maturity depends heavily on the organizational environment. In other words, an organization's prerequisites for mature programme management are defined by many underlying issues related to its organization structure and background. The chapter describes the prerequisites that affect the programme management maturity of an organization. There are three themes that can be used to describe the programme management maturity in a single programme. The themes have been adapted and modified from Managing Successful Programmes. The three themes are: benefits management; programme governance; and stakeholder management. Benefits management relates to how well the programme organization ensures that the business benefits of the programme are being realized. Stakeholder management indicates how well the programme stakeholders are taken into consideration in managing the programme.
