ABSTRACT

What the author would like to do today is talk a little bit about what the Department of Agriculture is doing to try and aid the food industry of Washington State in selling their food products to Japan. Other major resources are the US Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agriculture Service and the Agricultural Trade Officer in Tokyo. They do everything from giving the reader a lease to making business introductions. More and more Japanese companies are looking at going offshore, which includes coming over, to locate processing facilities and do the value-added work, and then ship the products into Japan in a form that can be set right on the supermarket shelf. Many of the International Marketing Program for Agricultural Commodities and Trade (IMPACT) Center researchers that have been over there have worked closely with Kent Nelson and with our Olympia staff as a source of information.
