ABSTRACT

A chronic problem facing the seed industry is the production of seeds that possess low vigor (TeKrony, Egli, and Balles, 1980). Environmental conditions during crop growth and development can strongly impact subsequent seed yield, germination ability, and vigor. While environmental stresses, such as temperature and moisture extremes, are known to reduce seed viability and vigor, physiological causes of seed quality loss are unclear.
