ABSTRACT

This chapter addresses some of the factors that we, as educators, need to keep in mind when espousing the use of multimedia in education. The benefits for the use of multimedia in educational settings have been well documented. These benefits, however, do not come without costs, both in terms of time and money and raise realistic issues with which we must deal. Recommend that videodiscs and other multimedia materials be purchased and maintained at a central location, such as the central office for the school district. Workshops and in-service can provide valuable information and important introductions to the use of multimedia in the classroom. There is nothing wrong with the “WOW” experience. We must remember that what we may feel very comfortable with has taken time and effort to master.
