ABSTRACT

In Korea, modern pesticide has been used by the people since the end of World War II. At the beginning, BHC and DDT were used for the improvement of hygiene and for agricultural purposes. Pesticides used for controlling pests, diseases, and weeds directly penetrate into the soil, or are adsorbed and translocated through the soil into crops to remain as residues. Monitoring surveys of organochloro pesticide residues in crops began in the late 1960s at the National Health Institute and Radio Radiation Research Institute in Agriculture in Korea. Residue levels of organochloro pesticides for cultivated soils in sheltered structures were evaluated in 1981 and 1982. Residues of organochloro insecticides should continue to be less of a problem in cultivated soils sheltered by structure in the future.
