ABSTRACT

This chapter presents procedures for preparing specifications, using fabric filters as the example. Fabric filtration systems range in size from the smallest in-plant dust control system exhausting a few hundred cubic feet per minute to mammoth air pollution control systems on the most sophisticated industrial processes. The chapter aims to determine regardless of the size or complexity of the system, the information conveyed by the buyer to the seller will be called specifications. The expenditure of several hundred thousand to several million dollars for an air pollution control system over its useful life warrants considerable effort in evaluation of the bids. This evaluation must take into account many cost variables other than first cost, and a well-structured set of specifications can make this evaluation much easier. Sellers of large air pollution control systems are routinely required to be bonded for performance by the buyer.
