A Nondestructive Technique for Monitoring and Evaluating the Stability of Concrete Highway Bridges

The Michigan Department of Transportation’s (MDOT) Structural Research Unit is often called upon to conduct nondestructive testing and evaluation of the state’s highway bridges. Our testing and research over the last several years has included monitoring bridge performance for load restriction requirements. The nondestructive testing and evaluation of MDOT’s highway bridges is of critical importance when considering today’s reduced budget for the maintenance of these structures.
