ABSTRACT
An optical fiber sensor system is being developed for bridge monitoring. The research study is an on-going multi year program, to be implemented in several phases, (a) large scale component testing, (b) full scale bridge testing in the laboratory and finally © full scale implementation in the field on existing bridge structures. In the current phase of the project, embedment of the sensors in structural elements is investigated. Large scale concrete beams are constructed in the lab, and damages in the form of delaminations are modeled in the beams during construction. The sensors are used to monitor the beams.
