ABSTRACT

We need to develop a computer linked internet of technical data involving non destructive testing techniques to assist in problem solving and developing testing procedures. This would include existing and advanced, state of the art testing equipment and technology.

Presently there is the National Technical Information Service. The services are for dissemination to the private sector, state and local governments.

However the one case scenarios of non destructive testing sometimes requires more complex and in depth information, such as technique procedures not commonly used for routine testing, which are not standard specifications and codes. Even the utilization of just completed research and development and advanced technology in non destructive testing applications could render the problem of the untold, within reach. Commonly known limitations of certain non destructive testing methods can then be either replaced or enhanced to give more comprehensive data to the testing industry.

With the application and joint sharing of technical data in a internet system, past trouble shooting and technique development in testing would shorten the acquisition time and delays in testing set up and operations. This pool of information would be very valuable to the structural testing industry.

Research and development, either in process or finalized could be tapped for information solving inquiries by other professionals via this computer link up system. By providing a non destructive testing internet that provides solutions for testing that can be implemented prior to expensive delays, shutdowns or even catastrophic failures on our highways. With this data available to all involved parties, quick repair or retrofit of our infrastructure and continued service of it, with minimal disruptions to traffic usage and public safety. This system will provide the technical edge for the future.
