ABSTRACT

Increasingly, the postmenopausal phase of a woman’s life is being viewed as a time during which the whole body experiences an accelerated aging process. Acute symptoms of menopause such as hot flushes and sweats herald the beginning of this new phase in a woman’s life. Unlike these acute symptoms, more serious sequelae such as postmenopausal osteoporosis and cardiovascular disease are more difficult to extricate from the effects of aging 1 .
