ABSTRACT
This paper provides a historical survey of the last twenty five years of development and progress in the field of oligosaccharide synthesis. Valuable contributions to the investigation of this field are discussed, and the applicability of these contributions to the syntheses of large complex oligosaccharides is illustrated.
