ABSTRACT
A summary of the chemistry of thoseO- andN-protecting groups that are useful for oligosaccharide synthesis is provided. Significant new groups and methods are highlighted. Particular emphasis is placed on the regioselectivity of preparative methods. Regioselective methods for removal are also emphasized where they exist. The compatibility of each protecting group with common reagents is outlined.
