ABSTRACT

The present investigation was carried out on carotenoids in the viscera, gonad, test and spine of six species of the sea-urchins belonging to the Regularia (Echinostrephus aciculatus, Anthocidaris crassispina and Echinometra mathaei of the order Echinoida, Temnopleurus toreumaticus, Mespilla globulus and Pseudocentrotus depressus of the Temnopleuroida) and of the five species of the sea urchins belonging to the Irregularia (Clyeaster japonicus, Scaphechinus mirabilis, Astriclypeus manni and Peronella japonica of the order Clypeasteroida, Brissus agassizi of the order Spatangoida) from the comparative biochemical point of view.
