ABSTRACT

The ice-pushed accumulations may be considered as the predominant features of the marginal zones in Polessie. They are also concentrated in the Dnieper Valley. Near the eastern limit of the Dnieper lobe advance, push moraines are encountered in the Vir River valley only near Zhovtnevoe. All the sedimentary accumulative landforms of thrust moraines occur intermittently in lines that are interpreted as former frontal positions of ice-marginal zones. It is interesting that thrust ridges are almost absent on the eastern flanks of the major former ice lobes, including both areas of the Dnieper ice stream and West Polesian lobe. The till, which occurs scattered within the central and upper parts of the glacial deposits, probably formed from melting-out of dead-ice. These sediments have been found in the fourth terrace of the Dnieper, between the Zolotonosha and Zhovnino village.
