ABSTRACT

The aim of the research was to provide for qualitative information about the existence of both mechanically weak areas and break lines in a talc sub-vertical dike exploited by a room and pillars mine. The seismic tomography allows to define the seismic waves velocity distribution on a plane intersecting a rock volume so that some elastic of the rocks on the could be estimated.

In mining contest seismic tomography often leads to find the solution of an “ill-posed” problem, whose results are very sensitive to small changes of the input data set.

In this study a method to reduce the inaccuracies of the tomographic processing is shortly presented and discussed together with an application of it to real data.

The obtained results show that the method allows a good processing of seismic information and the interpretation of the tomographic images is in agreement with the geotechnical data.
