ABSTRACT

The design of mine dewatering/depressurization systems requires an understanding of the hydrogeological environment in which the mine exists. However the water yielding characteristics of this environment are frequently not readily measured because of limitations with the available test procedures. Considerable judgement is required during the design process. Groundwater monitoring is essential throughout the planning and operational phases of the mine, to provide data on which predictions can be compared, and thus to enable the design to be amended as required.
