ABSTRACT

Underground mining causes the movement of overlying strata at a stope. Time, site and intension of roof weighting may be predicted by means of the field monitoring, thus necessary measurements may be taken ahead to prevent roof accidents at a stope. Based on a large number of practices, relation between movements of overlying strata and pressure behaviour of a stope is theoretically analysed, mechanism of prediction of roof weighting studied, choice of monitoring parameters discussed and an examples of monitoring -prediction given in this paper. Particularly, it is described that good technio-economic results were achieved as a consequence of elimination of the accidents of the support -falling after the monitoring-prediction method is applied to the top-coal drawing stope with sliding-bar type supports. Comprehensive analysis of all the information seized in several ways is necessary to predict exactly roof weighting.
