ABSTRACT

Floor heave has been one of the most difficult problems among the roadway support in soft rocks worldwide. This paper reports the newest achievements regarding the research on the mechanism of floor heave of roadway in soft rocks and corresponding control measures based on a large number of information obtained from field investigations, model tests and finite element calculations. They include: (1) Features and four basic types of floor heave for roadway in coal mines, i.e., a). squeeze-flowing type, b). deflectional folding type, c). shear-displacing type. d). swelling type due to water immersion. (2) Two successful industrial trials of controlling floor heave by means of destressing and reinforcement methods in Yanzhou & Huainan coal mining areas, China.
