ABSTRACT

Pedologists devote an immense amount of time and energy to ‘Soil Classification’. It is a major part of their science. Engineers, by and large, neglect Soil Classification. Recent Australian studies show how pedological thought is proceeding in an arid Continent and it is suggested that some of these ideas could be adopted by engineers. A major step forward could be the introduction of new and sophisticated methods of data handling. Heterotopic co-kriging may be of equal value to pedologists and engineers.
