ABSTRACT

Prediction of settlements above shield-driven tunnels is one of the major designer questions, predominantly in urban tunneling. The scope of this paper is to deal with this subject using numerical model simulating the process of shield tunneling and its interaction with the surrounding ground. In details, modelling of construction process under different loading conditions such as soil pressure, excavation loads, grout pressure, slurry pressure and groundwater pressure is discussed. Parametric study based on 3-D models to evaluate the influence of the most important parameters, slurry pressure and grouting pressure, is carried out.
