ABSTRACT

Based on experimental data gathered on a stepped chute, renewed criteria are proposed for the hydraulic design of stepped spillways over RCC dams. In particular, new empirical models are presented for the prediction of air entrainment and energy dissipation down the stepped chute.

Finally, other topics of relevance for the hydraulic design such as the spillway crest profile, optimum step height, training wall height, and safety against cavitation damage are briefly reviewed.
