ABSTRACT
The paper presents a number of trends in engineering education, with particular reference to Europe and U.S.A. and makes ample reference to the documents which illustrate these trends. An updated version of a survey on Geotechnical engineering education in Europe, conducted in 1998 and 1999, is also included. The need for cross-border mobility of professional engineers and of transnational cooperation in civil engineering education is emphasized.
