ABSTRACT
After a short introduction to outline the history and the main subjects of modern Environmental Geotechnics, the paper explains the new education program of Environmental Engineering at the Politecnico di Torino as an example to illustrate the role of Geotechnics within the Environmental Engineering curricula of a representative European university. An overview of Geotechnical Engineering education programs, based on a recent survey made in several USA universities, is also summarized for comparison purposes. Finally, examples of the basic contents that should be included in the main courses on Environmental Geotechnics are synthesized and discussed.
