ABSTRACT

The coupled equations of moisture and heat and the Galerkin’s finite element method were used to investigate the influence of the construction seasons to increase the height of embankment on the maximum thawing depth of a roadbed, which is in Huashixia Valley along Qinghai-Kangding Highway. The results show that the construction seasons to increase the height of embankment exert a considerable influence on the maximum thawing depth of the embankment, particularly in the initial 5 years after the construction.
