ABSTRACT

Digital image analysis is one of the fastest growing technologies applied in the mining industry to determine rock size distribution. At present, the digital image analysis is widely applied in many areas of mining process to determine fragment size distribution. The information gathered from the 2D images of rock fragments is used to evaluate the blast parameters and ore recovery in terms of rock fragmentation. The application of the image analysis techniques incorporating the knowledge-based modules will lead towards the development of an “intelligent software”. The use of the artificial intelligence technologies, such as computer vision and pattern matching, in formulating analysis guidelines is the first step in the development of an on-line, automated, integrated and intelligent rock fragmentation monitoring and control system.
