Introduction

As a consequence of our classical training and orientation it has become customary to view at our planet from the Northern Hemisphere and to study glaciations, their causes and far reaching effects mainly in the Quarternary. It is, however, very rewarding to go further back in time and to observe the Earth from a different angle as this will give more perspective to our ideas on the fascinating history of the Globe.
