ABSTRACT

Among 1,500 seacucumbers collected in the Gulf of Naples, 42 specimens of Holothuria stellati have been compared with Holothuria tubulosa: between the two species important differences are found in the general body morphology, in morphology and percentage distribution of spicules; in addition H.stellati shows an abundance of o val buttons with smooth edges and an elongated shape, with a longitudinal middle ridge and holes simmetrically placed, whereas they are virtually absent in H.tubulosa.
