ABSTRACT

The greatest densities in numbers and kcal/m2, respectively, were: Chiridota rigida 288, 31; Afrocucumis africana 546, 103; Holothuria difficilis 324, 62; H. hilla 52, 108; H. atra 52, 117; H. leucospilota 24, 195; Stichopus chloronotus 15, 183; and Actinopyga mauritana 12, 5670. The maximum sizes of the individuals of each species are inversely correlated with the maximum densities in numbers of individuals found, but directly correlated with the maximum densities in kcal. The range in numbers and kcal of greatest densities spans 2 and 3 orders of magnitude, respectively. Only A. africana and H. difficilis occurred in the same microhabitat. This pair and all other species occurred in different microhabitats.
