ABSTRACT

Sediment concentration distributions are predicted in a fully developed open channel flow with a fixed, rough bottom for various types of sediment material. Calculations are done using the k-ε turbulence model and relating the mass transfer coefficient to the turbulent eddy-viscosity distribution which is also calculated as a part of the solution. Deposition and entrapment of the sediment particles are considered. Influence of various hydraulic parameters on the predicted sediment concentration are investigated. Predictions are compared with experiments. The results show that concentration distributions can be predicted adequately with the calculated velocity and eddy-viscosity distributions.
