ABSTRACT
An experiment is reported, which was conducted in order to obtain information on the stochastic process of distance travelled by a single sand grain in a heterogeneous sand bed under the action of the wind. The way a ridge of coloured grains was distributed down through a wind tunnel by the wind is studied. The main finding is that, for the size range considered, the distance travelled in unit time increases with grain size.
