ABSTRACT
Homogenates of pyloric caeca, gonads, spermatozoa and eggs from the starfish Asterias rubens were fractionated by gelfiltration chromatography on Sepharose 2B and 4B. Three glycolipoprotein fractions, showing similarities with yolk lipoproteins from a sea urchin, were purified by chromatography on Sephacryl S-400. Electrophoresis, immunological experiments and gelchromatography were used to show the interrelationship between vitellogenic substances. The composition of amino acids, lipids, fatty acids and sugars of different fractions is discussed.
