ABSTRACT
A new enzymatic method is proposed to clean whole asteroid ossicles for SEM investigations. Enzymatic digestions were performed on fractured spines - i.e. previously cleaned spines - attempting to demonstrate the occurence of an intratrabecular organic matrix. Particular etching figures were produced (i.e. concentric layers made of tapered prismatic structures). The significance of these figures is discussed.
