ABSTRACT
Past, present and future of BWE and belt systems are examined in an historical perspective. Recent developments are analyzed and synthesized in five concise categories: Size, speed and capacity; availability/reliability; increase in flexibility; capabilities in difficult material and tough conditions and systems approach. Current outlook is also outlined in the context of history.
