ABSTRACT

Analysis of the geomechanical processes deep inside the massif of open pit nine benches can generate reliable methods for the estimation of its stability with time. Stability of slopes which consist of sedimentary deposits of sandy-clay and medium hard rocks were investigated. Laboratory and in-situ tests were carried out to establish the relationship of the rheological properties of existing soils and optimal geometrical parameters of slopes with time regarding the structural weakening of massif. Establishment of these relationships give valueble criteria for the geomechanical stability control of the open pit mines during the formation of mine benches, cutting down the expenditure for the stripping works and increasing the efficiency of the extraction process.
