ABSTRACT

The purpose of this article is to direct attention to a group of chalcolithic ceramics, the so-called Red Wash Ware, which has appeared throughout Syria from the Mediterranean coast in the west to the Khabur triangle in the east. Red Wash Ware is always found in connection with Late Halaf or transitional Halaf/Ubaid remains, which probably explains the fact that only little attention has been paid to it; the esthetically more attractive Halaf Pottery seems to have pushed the Red Wash Ware into oblivion.
