ABSTRACT

The fourth chapter, ‘Sustainable Ecological Capacity of Forest-Fringe Families’, empirically evaluates Breena Holland’s concept of sustainable ecological capacity (SEC) in the context of forest ecology and community ecosystem service access across Singalila and Senchal villages. It employs Holland’s framework to analyze not just the ecological conditions of the region but also the rights of villagers to access the forest. Political entitlements of different stakeholders, namely, the state, the market and the forest community are assessed and analyzed through this framework.
