ABSTRACT

The postcolonial has been looked at variously by various authors. Kwame Anthony Appiah has asked the question whether the post- in ‘post-colonial’ was the same as the ‘post’- in ‘postmodern’. His answer was yes, in the sense that both terms signified a negation of a previous authority. The postcolonial has been looked at variously by various authors. Kwame Anthony Appiah (1991) has asked the question whether the post- in ‘post-colonial’ was the same as the ‘post’- in ‘postmodern’. His answer was yes, in the sense that both terms signified a negation of a previous authority. Thus there are at least three senses in which the postcolonial can be used. First, in the temporal sense, as in what happens after the end of the colonial. Second, in the sense of the lived experience of peoples living in this hypothetically post-colonial colonial world.
